Our annual conference was held in Mary Immaculate College, Limerick, on Saturday, October 15th, 2005. The attendance surpassed our expectations with over 60 participants arriving on the day.

As usual, Noreen Lynch ensured that the college facilities were in excellent order and the mid-morning refreshments helped to recharge our batteries.

A number of practical sessions were offered and a wide range of activities were covered. Dr. Sylvia O’Sullivan led a very interesting creative dance workshop while John Drewett explored fundamental movement skills using ladders, hurdles and reaction games. Dr. Deirdre Ní Chroinín conducted a gymnastics session using floor-based circuits and sequences. An energetic orienteering course was implemented by Deirdre Dillane, while Pat Flanagan gave a fascinating workshop on adapting physical activity for children with special needs.

Professor Mary O’Sullivan delivered the keynote address and, in the course of a stimulating presentation, examined prevailing trends in Physical Education in Irish primary schools.

All in all, the conference was an outstanding success and the feedback from the participants was very positive indeed.
