Dear IPPEA and EUPEA members,
As you know, the IPPEA is a member of the European PE Association. EUPEA is a partner of the initiative of the European School Sport Day (ESSD), an idea which emerged from a prior Erasmus+ funded project.
The European School Sport Day (ESSD) is a pan-European initiative with the main goal to promote physical activity on international level and involve as many children and young people, schools and organisations as possible. The ESSD is inspired by the Hungarian School Sport Day, an event which is organised by the Hungarian School Sport Federation (HSSF) for the last 10 years. It has been a day dedicated to promote physical activity, to try out new ways of physical activities and sports, and of course to empower the “belonging to the school” experience for every participant.
ESSD was organised for the first time in 2015 as part of ISCA’s Move Week and NowWeMove campaign. The event attracted 300.000 participants. The ESSD 2016 was organized in 20 European countries in 2016, making the initiative the largest event of the European Week of Sport! By following this link, you will find all relevant information about the ESSD 2016: http://www.essd.eu/ph-htm/ Two Irish schools participated: Bunscoil Rinn and Chabhlaigh, Rushbrooke, Cobh and Anabla NS Kilcummin Killarney.
Please note that your involvement can be a two hour initiative with one class rather than a sports day. See ESSD website below for further details.
This year, the European School Sport Day will be held on the 29th of September 2017. However, related events will be organised during the whole period of the European Week of Sport (23rd September-30th September 2017).
Therefore, we kindly ask you to express your interest in participating with your school in the ESSD 2017. All you have to do is to is to contact Liam, IPPEA Chairperson and the Irish ESSD National Co-ordinator until September 8th 2017 to register your interest ippeachairperson@gmail.com
